Salgotarjani street Jewish Cemetery

The Salgótarjáni Street Jewish Cemetery is defined by a wall of massive, crumbling mausoleums that separate its grounds from the neighboring Fiumei Road Cemetery. Established in eighteen seventy-four, this site served as the primary burial ground for the Jewish elite of Pest for nearly two decades. Its landscape contains over one hundred and forty grand family tombs, many built by industrialists and noble families who shaped the city’s economy during the golden age of the nineteenth century.
