Connaught Place

Connaught Place is defined by two concentric circles of white, two-storied buildings linked by wide, radial roads. This grand, circular layout, featuring a continuous colonnade of pillars, was modeled after the Royal Crescent in Bath, England. When the British government decided to shift the capital of India from Calcutta to Delhi in nineteen eleven, they envisioned this area as a new commercial heart for the imperial city.
