Ubud Palace, known locally as Puri Saren Agung, is marked by its ornate traditional Balinese gates and stone carvings that distinguish it from the surrounding streetscape. Built in the early nineteenth century during the reign of Tjokorda Putu Kandel, this complex served as the official residence of the royal family of Ubud and the political center of the kingdom. While many original structures were lost to a significant earthquake in nineteen seventeen, the compound was reconstructed and remains the ancestral home of the Ubud royal family today.
