The Holy Bethlehem Church in the Julfa quarter is distinguished by a large, double-shell dome that rises twenty-five meters, making it the highest among the neighborhood’s churches. Built in sixteen twenty-eight during the Safavid era, this Armenian Apostolic church stands behind a wall intended to shield its interior from the view of passersby. It was commissioned by Khajeh Petros Velijanian, a prominent merchant who settled in the city after the mass relocation of Armenians under Shah Abbas the First.
