Church of San Giovanni Battista of Riomaggiore

The Church of San Giovanni Battista sits in the highest part of Riomaggiore, defined by a white Carrara marble rose window that has survived since the original construction in thirteen forty. Built at the behest of Antonio Fieschi, the bishop of Luni, the church was the work of Antelami craftsmen. While much of the building underwent a significant neo-Gothic reconstruction between eighteen seventy and eighteen seventy-one following a structural collapse, the original fourteenth-century rose window remains set into the facade.
