The Rione Sanità is set apart by the yellow and green majolica dome of the Basilica of Santa Maria della Sanità, which rises above the surrounding rooftops. Historically a valley used for burial in Greek and Roman times, the area became a home for noble families in the seventeenth century, who sought the fresh air that gave the neighborhood its name.
