Teatro Bellini di Napoli

The Teatro Bellini presents a restrained, modest street front on Via Conte di Ruvo that hides an interior built in the traditional Neapolitan manner. Inside, it features a horseshoe-shaped auditorium with six tiers of boxes, decorated in red and gold to suit the candlelit spectacles of the nineteenth century. The theater takes its name from Vincenzo Bellini, the Sicilian composer who studied music in Naples, and it opened in eighteen seventy-eight with a performance of his opera I Puritani.
