Museo Storico Musicale del Conservatorio di San Pietro a Majella

The Museo Storico Musicale stands within a massive complex of the former Celestine monastery, recognizable by a cloister that houses a nineteenth-century marble statue of Ludwig van Beethoven. This building, which functions as one of Italy's oldest active music conservatories, acts as a primary repository for the musical history of Naples. Founded as a royal music college in the nineteenth century, it unified four ancient institutions that had originally served as orphanages for children in the sixteenth century.
