The Lion's Gate, or Porta del Leone, is a stone archway integrated into the medieval defensive walls of Pisa. It is identifiable by the sculpture of a marble lion perched near the structure, which once guarded the city from its position atop a nearby tower. Built in eleven fifty-four, this gateway was the first to be opened during the initial construction of the city's protective perimeter.
