Santa Cristina, Turin

religious

The Church of Santa Cristina is identified by its elegant, curved Baroque façade that anchors one of the two twin structures flanking the southern edge of Piazza San Carlo. Commissioned in sixteen thirty-nine by the regent Maria Cristina of France, the church was built to honor the memory of her young son, Prince Francesco Giacinto of Savoy. While the initial structure followed a design by Carlo di Castellamonte, the building stood without its signature front for decades.
