Tenjuan

Tenjuan is a sub-temple of Nanzen-ji, recognizable by the contrast between its two distinct gardens. Founded in thirteen thirty-six by the priest Kokan Shiren, it was established to honor Mukan Fumon, the founding monk of the greater Nanzen-ji complex. While the original structures were lost to the fires of the Onin War in the fifteenth century, the temple was rebuilt in sixteen oh two under the patronage of the daimyo Hosokawa Yusai.
