Bukit China, or Chinese Hill, rises above modern Malacca as a sprawling, forested expanse that contains more than twelve thousand graves. It holds the title of the largest Chinese cemetery outside of China, with burials stretching back to the fifteenth century. The hill is defined by its quiet, tree-covered slopes, which serve as a persistent green space within the surrounding city streets.
