The Proclamation of Independence Memorial is marked by its white stucco facade, arched veranda, and two golden, onion-shaped domes that rise above the building. Built in nineteen twelve, the mansion originally served as the Malacca Club, an exclusive social center for the British colonial elite. It remained a private hub until nineteen eighty-four, when the state government acquired the premises to preserve it as a historical monument.
