Fonoteca Nacional

The Fonoteca Nacional is defined by its home, the Casa Alvarado, an eighteenth-century colonial house featuring a distinct blend of Andalusian and Moorish architectural influences. Its main entrance, a finely carved wooden gate, draws inspiration from the doors of the Antiguo Colegio de San Ildefonso in the historic center. Declared a historical monument in nineteen thirty-two, the building serves as the first institution of its kind in Latin America, dedicated entirely to the preservation of the nation's sound heritage.
