The Margaret Mahy Family Playground is easily identified by its towering, colorful climbing structures and the large, orange petal-shaped sunshades that rise above the riverbank. Opened in two thousand fifteen, this two point five hectare site sits along the Ōtākaro Avon River and was built as part of the Christchurch Central Recovery Plan following the twenty eleven earthquake. It is considered one of the largest playgrounds in the Southern Hemisphere.
