Kuan Alley and Zhai Alley

Kuan Alley and Zhai Alley are defined by their gray-brick facades and rows of traditional courtyard houses, forming three parallel paths known as Kuan, Zhai, and Jing. These lanes constitute the last remaining portion of a sprawling, forty-two-alley military hamlet built in seventeen eighteen. Following a rebellion, the Qing Dynasty emperor Kangxi dispatched soldiers to Chengdu, establishing this site as a secure garrison for his Eight Banners elite forces.
