The New Barracks stand as a jagged, T-shaped ruin of reinforced concrete, defined by exposed iron rebar and deep structural scars. Built between nineteen thirty-four and nineteen thirty-five, this three-level facility served as the primary living quarters and defensive stronghold for the Polish military transit depot at Westerplatte. Its design was remarkably modern for the era, incorporating central heating, an infirmary, and a secure basement shelter engineered to withstand aerial bombardment by absorbing the energy of shells through its thick concrete floors.
