Palace of the Porphyrogenitus

The Palace of the Porphyrogenitus is a three-story stone and brick structure that sits directly against the ancient Theodosian Walls. You can identify it by the elaborate, colorful geometric patterns of red brick and white marble that decorate its exterior, a hallmark of late Byzantine architecture. Built between the late thirteenth and early fourteenth centuries as part of the Blachernae palace complex, it is one of the few secular Byzantine buildings to survive in the city.
