Bathampton Down is a flat, elevated limestone plateau that rises six hundred and sixty-nine feet above sea level, overlooking the River Avon and the city of Bath. You can identify this landscape by its wide, open expanse of grassland and the golf course that now occupies much of the summit. This high ground marks the northeastern end of a continuous series of plateaus that encircle the south side of Bath.
