Bathwick Hill is a steep thoroughfare defined by its rows of stately Georgian villas built from cream-colored Bath stone. Rising southeast from the A36 toward the open fields of Claverton Down, the street serves as a transition point between the urban center of Bath and the surrounding countryside. Many of these historic residences, such as number twenty-three, are attributed to the architect Henry Goodridge, who lived in the area and designed several of the properties in a distinctive Italianate style.
