The Cross Bath is an intimate, oval-shaped thermal pool tucked behind an elegant stone colonnade at the western end of Bath Street. This Grade I listed building sits directly over a natural hot spring, a site that has been used for bathing since Roman times. The current structure was built by city architect Thomas Baldwin in seventeen eighty-four and later reoriented by John Palmer to align with the Georgian streetscape.
