Part of the mediaeval wall of the City of Bath

A remnant of the medieval wall stands on the north side of Upper Borough Walls, marked by its proximity to a small, enclosed space that once served as a burial ground. This section of stone, which is heavily restored, owes its survival to that very plot of land. Between seventeen thirty-six and eighteen forty-nine, the ground received two hundred and thirty-eight bodies of patients who died at the nearby Mineral Water Hospital.
