Queen Square

Queen Square is defined by the seven large townhouses on its northern side, which are designed to look like a single, grand palace rather than individual homes. Completed between seventeen twenty-eight and seventeen thirty-six, this was the first major project by local architect John Wood the Elder. He pioneered a speculative building method here, leasing the land and creating the unified, Palladian-style façades while sub-letting plots to individual builders to finish the structures behind them.
