Top Lock Cottage is a symmetrical, single-storey limestone building that sits beside the Kennet and Avon Canal. You can identify it by its pointed-arched windows and its wide, bracketed eaves. Built around eighteen ten, it served as a home for the canal’s lock-keeper who managed the final lock in the Widcombe flight. The design of the cottage was likely influenced by the Bathwick Estate to ensure the structure appeared picturesque within the surrounding landscape.
