The Royal Crescent

The Royal Crescent is a sweeping, five-hundred-foot-long row of thirty terraced townhouses in Bath. You can distinguish it by its massive, uniform curve, punctuated by one hundred and fourteen Ionic columns that rise above a wide, open lawn. Designed by John Wood the Younger and built between seventeen sixty-seven and seventeen seventy-four, it stands as the first crescent-shaped townhouse terrace ever constructed in Europe.
