The Gravel Walk

The Gravel Walk is a wide, gravel-covered pathway that stretches between the Royal Crescent and Queen Square. First laid out in seventeen seventy-one, it served as an early bypass for sedan chairs traveling to and from the city center. Along the route, you can find the original cobbled gutters hidden beneath the edges of the path, a reminder of the engineering used to manage drainage for the Georgian houses and gardens that back onto this lane.
