National Trust - Carlyle's House

Twenty-four Cheyne Row is a narrow, three-story brick townhouse built in seventeen oh eight. From eighteen thirty-four until eighteen eighty-one, it served as the home of the Scottish writer Thomas Carlyle and his wife, the essayist Jane Welsh Carlyle. You can identify the house by its modest, residential appearance, which remains largely unchanged from the days when the couple lived here among their gardens and orchards.
