Lancaster House

Lancaster House is a mansion built of Bath stone, distinguished by its symmetrical wings and a prominent central portico supported by Ionic columns. It began in eighteen twenty-five as York House, commissioned by Prince Frederick, the Duke of York. The project was so ambitious that it sat as a half-finished shell when the Duke died in debt two years later.
