County Hall

County Hall stands as a massive, sweeping curve of Portland stone along the South Bank of the River Thames. Designed by Ralph Knott, this grand Edwardian Baroque building opened in nineteen twenty-two to serve as the headquarters for London’s local government. For sixty-four years, it housed the London County Council and later the Greater London Council, acting as the administrative pulse of the city until the national government abolished the council in nineteen eighty-six.
