The dark, weathered timber ribs of the clipper ship King Philip occasionally emerge from the sands of Ocean Beach during exceptionally low tides. Built in eighteen fifty-six in Alna, Maine, the three-masted vessel spent years carrying cargo between the East Coast and San Francisco. During its two-decade career, the ship survived two separate mutinies where the crew attempted to set the decks on fire.
