Eastern Market

Eastern Market is a long, brick building defined by its tall, arched windows and an open-air pavilion along its side. Completed in eighteen seventy-three, it is the city’s last remaining public market from the nineteenth century. Designed by architect Adolf Cluss, the building was intended to bring order to the distribution of fresh goods, featuring wide interior spaces that provided natural light and ventilation for butchers and farmers.
