Folger Shakespeare Library

The Folger Shakespeare Library is a marble building on Capitol Hill featuring a modernized classical exterior with distinct relief sculptures carved into its facade. It was designed by architect Paul Philippe Cret and opened on April twenty-third, nineteen thirty-two, the date traditionally celebrated as the birthday of William Shakespeare. The library serves as a monument to the playwright and houses the world's largest collection of Shakespeare-related materials, including eighty-two copies of the sixteen twenty-three First Folio.
