The Wayside

The Wayside is a two-story wood-frame farmhouse that has stood on Lexington Road for more than three hundred years. Its gabled silhouette and weathered exterior hide a complex history, beginning as a colonial home in the early eighteenth century and later gaining recognition as the only house ever owned by the author Nathaniel Hawthorne. Today, it is recognized as a site within the Minute Man National Historical Park, marked by its role in both the American Revolution and the development of American literature.
