Orfield Laboratories is housed in a nondescript concrete building in the Seward neighborhood of Minneapolis that was once known as Sound Eighty. While the structure is modern and utilitarian, its walls carry a deep musical legacy. It was here that Bob Dylan recorded parts of his album Blood on the Tracks and where Prince tracked early demos for his debut. The studio was also the site of the first classical digital Grammy award for the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra’s recording of Appalachian Springs, and where the 1980 hit Funkytown was tracked.
