The Strat is defined by its observation tower, which rises one thousand one hundred forty-nine feet into the sky. It is the tallest freestanding observation tower in the United States and remains a dominant feature of the Las Vegas skyline. The resort sits at the site of the former Vegas World casino, which the entrepreneur Bob Stupak opened in nineteen seventy-nine.
