The Museo de Bellas Artes Juan Manuel Blanes is set within a nineteenth-century Palladian villa, easily identified by the expansive park and the Japanese garden surrounding the property on the banks of the Miguelete Creek. Founded in nineteen thirty to coincide with the centenary of the first Uruguayan Constitution, the museum honors Juan Manuel Blanes, the artist who painted the country's formative historical events.
