The Ramesseum is identified by the shattered fragments of a granite colossus that once stood over sixty feet tall. This mortuary temple, commissioned by Ramses the Second in the thirteenth century before the common era, served as a "House of Millions of Years" intended to secure the pharaoh’s legacy and divine status. Its walls are inscribed with detailed reliefs of his military campaigns, most notably the Battle of Kadesh.
