Valley of the Queens

The Valley of the Queens is a secluded gorge carved into the limestone cliffs of the Theban hills, distinct for its concentration of rock-cut tombs belonging to royal women and princes of the New Kingdom. Known in antiquity as Ta-Set-Neferu, or the Place of Beauty, this site served as the final resting place for the wives and children of pharaohs from the eighteenth through the twentieth dynasties.
