Courée Cacan

The Courée Cacan, located at number three Cours Cacan in the Moulins district, is a surviving example of a working-class residential form unique to the industrial development of Lille. It consists of a cluster of small, uniform brick houses arranged around a shared interior courtyard, accessed from the street through a narrow passage. These spaces were originally built to house factory workers in the nineteenth century, often featuring only two rooms—one on each floor—and a communal water source and toilets situated in the center of the yard.
