The Porte de Paris is a massive stone triumphal arch that stands out for its ornate, gilded sculptures and its imposing scale, which dwarfs the surrounding streetscape. Built between sixteen eighty-five and sixteen ninety-two, it was commissioned by King Louis the Fourteenth following his conquest of Lille during the siege of sixteen sixty-seven.
