The Monument to the Carrier Pigeon stands near the entrance to the Lille Zoo. Sculpted by Alexandre Descatoire and inaugurated in nineteen thirty-six, the monument features a female figure representing peace, surrounded by a flock of birds, standing above a shield that crushes a snake. Two carved bas-reliefs on the base depict soldiers in the trenches, illustrating how these birds served as vital messengers when other communication lines failed during the First World War.
