The Porte de Gand, once called the Porte de la Madeleine, stands as a seventeenth-century city gate on the eastern edge of Lille. Built between sixteen seventeen and sixteen twenty-one, this structure was a key part of the Spanish fortifications that expanded the city's reach. Master masons Pierre Raoul and Jean Le Mestre crafted the gate, which Archdukes Albert and Isabella formally inaugurated in sixteen twenty-five.
