Musée de l'Hospice Comtesse

museum

The Musée de l'Hospice Comtesse is distinguished by the grand wooden doors along the cobbled rue de la Monnaie in Old Lille, which hide a sprawling complex of courtyards and historic brick buildings. Founded in twelve thirty-seven by Jeanne, Countess of Flanders, the site began as a hospital for the sick, the poor, and pilgrims passing through the region. It operated in that capacity for over seven hundred years, remaining in service until nineteen thirty-nine.
