The House of Gilles de la Boë is recognizable by its ochre color and the series of sandstone arches lining its ground floor. Built in sixteen thirty-six, this Flemish Mannerist building stands at the corner of the Place Louise de Bettignies and the Avenue du Peuple Belge. It was commissioned by Gilles de la Boë, a merchant who traded in spices and fabrics when the area served as a bustling port for the Basse Deûle canal.
