Les Halles de Wazemmes are recognizable by their expansive metal frame and large glass sections, which allow natural light to fill the entire interior. Built between eighteen sixty-nine and eighteen seventy-three, the structure follows the architectural style of Victor Baltard, famous for his design of the central market halls in Paris. It remains the only covered market in Lille that has been continuously operated as such since the late nineteenth century.
