La Malterie occupies a historic brick industrial structure that began life in the nineteenth century as the Grande Brasserie des Flandres. Built around eighteen seventy-one, the facility functioned as a working brewery and malt house until the mid-nineteen fifties, eventually falling into disuse. Its sturdy, multi-story brick frame, once defined by the heavy machinery of beer production, has since been reclaimed by the artistic community.
