other

The Rue de la Grande-Chaussée consists of a narrow, cobblestone path lined with a mix of centuries-old facades and ornate stonework. Mentioned in a charter as early as ten sixty-six, this route connected the old marketplace, now the Grand'Place, to the medieval fortress, or castrum, of Lille. It served as an artery for the city's early inhabitants, hosting the homes of merchants and bourgeois families who shaped the core of the town.
