Convento Capuchinas

The Convento Capuchinas, or the Convent of the Capuchins, is distinguished by an unusual circular tower that surrounds a central courtyard. Known officially as the Convento e Iglesia de Nuestra Señora del Pilar de Zaragoza, this structure was the final convent established for nuns during the colonial period in Antigua Guatemala. Construction began in seventeen thirty-one under the supervision of architect Diego de Porres, and the complex was consecrated in seventeen thirty-six.
