Palacio de los Capitanes

The Palacio de los Capitanes Generales is distinguished by a long, double-story arcade of fifty-four stone arches that stretches across the entire southern side of the central square. This massive structure, first commissioned in fifteen forty-nine, served for over two centuries as the political, military, and administrative headquarters for the Spanish colonies across Central America, with authority reaching from modern-day Mexico down into Costa Rica.
