Casa de los Gigantes takes its name from a seventeenth-century legend involving larger-than-life wooden figurines known as giants. During a religious procession long ago, an unexpected downpour forced the people carrying these heavy, wooden figures to seek refuge at this very house. The owners opened their doors, providing shelter to the giants and their bearers until the rain stopped.
